Festival of Trees

Christmas is weird in Florida. It's really hard to get into the Christmas spirit when it's 80 degrees outside-- and even in an unseasonably cool week like this one, it isn't exactly winter-like.

So, spending the last several days preparing for the Festival of Trees has been a little surreal. The interior of the art center looks like a winter wonderland... and outside, it's sunny and the only shade comes in the form of a palm tree.

Today, the decorators were all putting the finishing touches on their trees. I shot a little video with our crappy little camera... take a peek:

Here kitty, kitty, kitty..

Cory and I have recently become fascinated obsessed with an odd little video on YouTube (Thanks, Melissa & Chris).

Enjoy:

We've pretty much made it our mission to make this the most-watched video on YouTube. So watch it. over and over. and tell your friends.

Do it.

Karaoke Caution

I'm sure you all know of our fondness for karaoke. There was a stretch of about a year and a half when Cory and I hung out regularly at a karaoke bar after work. Our wedding reception ended up at that same karaoke bar and closed the place down... with Cory and I singing "Love Shack" as the final number of the night.

Cory's a pretty good singer. Yeah, he's had one or two rough experiences on the stage, but for the most part, he's usually one of the better singers of the evening. I am not one of the better ones, but I'm usually not the worst, either.

Anyone who's been to a karaoke bar knows that there are few things in the world worse than bad karaoke. Sometimes the song is horrible, sometimes the singing is terrible, sometimes the singer isn't even familiar with the song. And sometimes, just sometimes, all three of those factors converge and place everyone into a deep karaoke hell.

Karaoke people are forgiving and kind-- for the most part. But every now and then, something happens on stage that just can't be forgiven. And apparently, a poor performance of Ronnie James Dio's "Holy Diver" is one of those unspeakable offenses. So before you grab the microphone and start wailing into it, remember... there could be some drunk S.O.B. in the crowd who's willing to beat the crap out of you for messing up his favorite song.

No pressure, though.
